About Mauro Nicolao

Dr. Mauro Nicolao is senior director and leads the Data Science team at Curriculum Associates, where his team’s research focuses on automatic children’s speech recognition and AI-enabled educational technologies. Through his leadership and active collaboration with the scientific community, the Data Science team continue to drive forward the capabilities of AI and speech technology, making impactful advancements that can enhance user experiences and support educational initiatives. Mauro holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Sheffield and brings more than 20 years of experience in speech science and technology, spanning early research at Italy’s National Research Council (CNR), a decade as a researcher at the University of Sheffield, and time leading the speech team at AI Labs. His work has spanned automatic speech recognition, pronunciation assessment, and speech-enabled assistive technologies, resulting in several peer-reviewed publications.
